Funding the farm dream

I have discovered the physical costs associated with funding the farm dream.

Starting up a new farm, like any other business, requires capital. Raising capital is never easy and our chosen method has been renovating houses to sell at a profit. I have funded the works, whilst Andy has toiled to resurrect and transform houses just in time for us to move onto the next project. Our final renovation project is nearly complete, allowing us to move on to our farm dream.

In the last couple of weeks, I have assumed a more active role. As my skills were limited, my first jobs entailed moving 3 m3 of rock, 4 m3 of renovation detritus (with some help) and more mulch than I care to think of. Having diligently carried out these tasks, I have now graduated to painting. Superintendent Andy says that my work is good – coming from Andy, this is high praise indeed.

I am proud of my blisters and bruises – they are visible proof of the new life I am now living. We may not be on the farm yet – but farm readiness training has certainly already begun.
