GARLIC – Hand grown!

This post is somewhat belated – We started planting our garlic in late April and finished in early June.

The process was very ‘hands-on’ shall we say. Our neighbour deep ripped and rotary hoed our half acre plot – which gave us a fighting chance. The rest was all done by hand. We looked high and low for a raised bed former, but there were none to be had. So, we  had to plant direct into our plot, which meant that each row had to be marked out, hand prepared (ie evened out) and weeded before we could plant the garlic. The garlic was then planted by hand using our homemade garlic planter to create the holes followed by good old fashioned graft on our hands and knees planting each bulb!

In total we have 10 rows. Each row consists of five bulbs planted every 150 mm along the 80 metre row length. That’s 26,666 bulbs all planted by hand! I’m calling our garlic hand-grown.
