The journey begins

Andy, my partner, and I have long dreamt of trading in our comfortable suburban life for a new life in the country. In September 2014, after watching countless hours of Escape to the Country, River Cottage and the Gourmet Farmer, we leapt in and purchased 100 acres in Woodfield, Victoria.

Armed with our television and book reading knowledge, half an Agriculture Certificate III, a weekend market gardening course and a pig husbandry course we are launching into our new farming life in January 2015!

Our farm consists of two dams, a very small gum plantation and, I am assured, good perimeter fencing – its a promising start. Over the coming months we will get to know the locals, become part of the community, renovate a bus to live in, build and supply the pig paddocks,  get set-up to grow garlic, build a garage and send our son off to school for the first time.

With an action list that long – there is bound to be something in this blog for everyone!

I hope that you will enjoy following our journey  as much as I enjoy share the funny and, sometimes, not so funny, experiences we have along the way.
